The Little Match Girl

Let’s tell the story of a poor young girl, in New Year’s Eve. She is trying to sell matches in the street but nobody wants to buy them. She’s freezing and she wants to go home, but she can’t. She is afraid of his father, who will beat her if she doesn’t sell any match.

Then, she sits near a house, and thinks about lighting a match to warm up. But at first she did not dare.
When she can not take any more, lights a match and its bright light makes her see herself sitting in a sitting room by the fireplace trying to get her feet warm. The place was decorated with balls and a Christmas tree... but that view faded away when the match went.

He lighted a second match, and this time she could see a table with a holiday feast. There were lots of delicious and tasty food, but when she tries to catch it, the match went again.

As she lighted her next match, she could see the person who had loved her the most and had treated her better, her grandmother. There she was, smiling at the small girl…but one more time, the match went!

Finally, she uses all the matches in order to see her grandma, and feels happy for being with her…

The match-seller dies freezing but happy… Her grandmother carries her soul to heaven.

THE END

This beautiful but sad tale is one of our favorites.

Humility and poverty dominate the story, and help us raise awareness of everyday life on the street. Every day people die because of cold or having any food.
We hope the message of this story, help us to be more helpful and kindness and also to think about the others.
